My name is Phil Hogg. I am English, married to Na, and we have two children, Michael and Naysa. I have lived in Siem Reap since January 2004 and I ran the Sydney Angkor Hotel in Wat Bo Road, in the centre of Siem Reap, for nearly four years. We now run the Siem Reap Rooms Guesthouse which is a small guesthouse close to the Old Market. My friend Paul "Harry" Dalton, who has lived in Siem Reap since April 2005, used to run Phil and Harry's Ice Creams, the bright pink buses you will see driving around the Angkor Temples. We started working on Siem Reap Rooms in September 2006 as a bit of a hobby, but then we started to get a lot of interest from people wanting to advertise on the site, so it has become more of a part time job. We have both done quite a lot of travelling around Cambodia and South East Asia. Based on our own experiences, and through meeting many visitors every day in our previous businesses, we have gained a lot of knowledge about the region. People often asked us for advice, so we decided that it would be a good idea to share our knowledge on a travel website and make it available to people before they even arrive in Cambodia. We know from our own experiences, how much time it can take planning a trip, so we thought it would be great if there was a website about Siem Reap full of local and, perhaps more importantly, up-to-date information. Through Siem Reap Rooms and running a hotel in Siem Reap we have gained a lot of friends, contacts and acquaintances. Many of these people are in the tourism business, so we decided that we should put together some of this great knowledge to set up a tour company which arranges Angkor tours, Cambodia tours and group tours. We are now working with a number of very experienced tour guides and drivers, as well as some of the best hotels in Cambodia. All of the tour guides and drivers that we work with are independent small businesses. We try to encourage people to work independently, because it gives them a better standard of living. We pay the tour guides and drivers the same rates as you would pay them if you were travelling independently. Oh, I should also mention my brother Ian, who manages this website for me. He currently lives in the UK, but he is a regular worldwide traveller and has also been to Cambodia a few times himself. Although Harry and I mainly work on Siem Reap Rooms and the guesthouse, we also have a market project near to Siem Reap town centre, which is partly business and partly for us to put something back into Cambodia, by helping improve the daily lives of many people who live in the area. If you are interested in knowing more about our market project, you can find some pictures and more information within our Land for Sale section under Baray Krochab Market. The top picture on the right hand side of this page is of my wife Na, my son Michael and my daughter Naysa. The second picture down is a picture of me, giving a hand on my father-in-law's farm. The third picture down is a picture of Harry, and the picture below him is a picture of Leakhena, Harry's girlfriend.
