Angkor Temple Tours & Guides

Last updated: 26 Jul 2008

You do not actually need to have a tour guide, but if you are really interested then we would recommend hiring one. If you are very interested in the history of the temples, then we would recommend that you buy a good book about them. However, if you are not so interested, and just want to see the temples, then you will not need a book or a tour guide.

A good English speaking tour guide normally costs between US$20 and US$25. However, if you consider this to be too expensive, you can hire guides for around US$15, but they know very little about the history and will probably not be able to answer your questions properly. On the other hand, that does not mean because someone charges US$20 or US$25 is any good either! To find a good guide it is best to find one through recommendations, which is easily done with a bit research through the internet.

There are guides for a number of other languages like Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Thai and others, but you may find that most of them are either fully booked by tour companies or there is a limited number of guides for that language. Guides for languages other than English are normally more expensive and can cost between US$25 and US$60 a day.
